Manual Lymphatic Drainage / Lymphatic Massage
Developed in the 1930’s by the physiotherapist Dr. Emil Vodder, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, as the name suggests, focuses on the movement of fluid through the lymphatic system which is essential in filtering out bacteria and toxins.
The Marvelous Lymphatic System
Most of us has experienced a cold and discovered that it has caused our lymph nodes (usually around the neck and jaw) to swell and this swelling goes away when our cold does. This is because our lymph nodes are becoming congested with white blood cells fighting the infection.
Your lymph nodes are part of your lymphatic system which is a network of vessels (similar to blood vessels) that run throughout the body and surround our organs. As much as 2-3 liters of lymph are filtered through this system each day. Effective Lymphatic Drainage when done properly with a certified therapist, can increase the volume of lymph flow by as much as 20 times!
Symptoms of a Congested Lymphatic System
When this system becomes congested (due to surgery, illness, injury ETC), it can cause soreness, puffiness, allergies, headaches, low energy, increased susceptibility to infection, aches, pains, and flu-like symptoms.
Increase Your Wellness With Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage uses gentle rhythmic movement that assists the body in moving and draining lymph fluid to the lymph nodes. The lymph nodes produce lymphocytes which invaders (germs and toxins) and also filters the lymph fluid. Manual Lymphatic Drainage has many medical uses. It is an essential component of Complex Decongestive Therapy used to treat lymphoedema and it is also used as part of a full detoxification program. Manual Lymphatic Drainage helps the body heal itself from many common maladies and common benefits can include: reduction in edema, regeneration of tissue, anti-aging, relief of chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia, some forms of constipation and insomnia.
